Random slabs are slate slabs with an irregular shape. Slate roofs with random slabs are the oldest form of roofing. The slabs are supplied as medium or large random slabs, usually 20–30 mm thick.
The random slabs are fitted on site, where holes are drilled for fastening or notches are sawn into the edges of the slabs.
Random slabs require more overlap. This type of slate roof is therefore relatively heavy, and the structure of the house must be designed to carry the load. Since a lot of slate goes into the overlap, we recommend ordering slate for twice the area of the roof surface.
