Slate facade and interior
Eagle Nest Eco Lodge near Otta in Gudbrandsdalen offers spectacular accommodation high among the mountains of Jotunheimen, Rondane and Dovre. A floating hotel suite at 901 meters, overlooking high mountains and summer farms, wild rivers and endless sky. Created by two local and very meticulous souls.
Eagle Nest Eco Lodge offers innovative architecture, exquisite interiors and luxury on par with the surrounding mountains. It is built on Gudbrandsdalen’s rich traditions of craftsmanship and culture, and consists mainly of materials taken from nature.
The word “locally sourced” has rarely been more fitting, with the Pillarguri quarry a long stone’s throw away. Ottaskifer was therefore used for both the facade and the interior. The facade consists of square slate slabs with clipped edges. We used slate in both black and rust, and the facade sparkles in the sun. The lodge is exposed to the weather, and the slate facade ensures a maintenance-free and durable building.
In addition to the facade, Ottaskifer is used in the interior, both in the bathroom and in the kitchen.
“The Pillarguri quarry, a ‘troll’s throw’ from the lodge, where Otta Skifer gets its stone, was a natural choice for decorating the lodge. You will find slate in both the interior and exterior, giving a feeling that is both luxurious and robust.” Ingrid Tho, Eagle Nest Eco Lodge.
